Sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with both expert and novice participants to investigate factors that complicate clinical management and clinical reasoning. Thematic analysis revealed three overarching themes—child-related, parent-related, and student-related factors—each contributing to difficulties in clinical practice. Within each theme, sub-themes highlighted common errors and complicating factors. The findings offer valuable insights for developing targeted simulation-based educational programs aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application in dental education.<BR><BR>\n<B>Dataset</B><BR><BR>\nThe dataset includes anonymized qualitative data from 16 semi-structured interviews with dental education experts and novice students. It consists of, ‘coded excerpts’, contains selected excerpts from interview transcripts along with thematic codes assigned during the analysis; and, ‘codebook’, details the thematic structure, including main themes and their respective sub-themes.
