In three experiments (total N = 808), participants studied case information and provided guilt assessments. As expected, in Experiment 1 and 2a, i) voluntary confessions to protect a family member elicited stronger guilt attributions than no-confessions and ii) ambiguous evidence led to stronger guilt attributions than exculpatory evidence. In Experiment 2b, voluntary confessions to protect a group-member (but not to protect a family-member) elicited stronger guilt attributions than no-confessions. Exculpatory eyewitness evidence elicited stronger guilt attributions than exculpatory DNA evidence and participants assigned more weight to exculpatory DNA than eyewitness evidence. Participants were able to discount coerced-compliant confessions when they received information about the interrogations (Experiments 2a/b), but did not consistently consider risk factors for (voluntary) false confessions outside the interrogation room when assessing guilt."}}]},{"typeName":"subject","multiple":true,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":["Social Sciences"]},{"typeName":"keyword","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"false confessions"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"voluntary blame-taking"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"correspondence bias"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"verdict"}}]},{"typeName":"publication","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"publicationCitation":{"typeName":"publicationCitation","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"https://doi.org/10.1002/acp.4041"},"publicationIDType":{"typeName":"publicationIDType","multiple":false,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":"doi"},"publicationIDNumber":{"typeName":"publicationIDNumber","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"10.1002/acp.4041"},"publicationURL":{"typeName":"publicationURL","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"https://doi.org/10.1002/acp.4041"}}]},{"typeName":"depositor","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience - Maastricht University"},{"typeName":"dateOfDeposit","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2023-01-09"},{"typeName":"kindOfData","multiple":true,"typeClass":"primitive","value":["experimental data"]}]},"dansDataVaultMetadata":{"displayName":"Data Vault Metadata","name":"dansDataVaultMetadata","fields":[{"typeName":"dansDataversePid","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"doi:10.34894/II908V"},{"typeName":"dansDataversePidVersion","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"1.0"},{"typeName":"dansBagId","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"urn:uuid:4bc4ae67-39a7-4517-8966-7794fe56e397"},{"typeName":"dansNbn","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"urn:nbn:nl:ui:13-41c5e61a-a088-4b4a-8dc3-22387d95bb9b"}]}},"files":[{"label":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment Study 1 Dataverse.sav","restricted":true,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":24650,"dataFile":{"id":353243,"persistentId":"","filename":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment Study 1 Dataverse.sav","contentType":"application/x-spss-sav","friendlyType":"SPSS Binary","filesize":48731,"storageIdentifier":"surf://store:185959bf286-f89b7adfdc3a","rootDataFileId":-1,"checksum":{"type":"SHA-1","value":"5fcf6d3531d9602409481703e1d21662e6520ac0"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2023-01-09","publicationDate":"2023-01-10","lastUpdateTime":"2023-01-10T12:54:23Z","fileAccessRequest":true}},{"label":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment_Study 2a Dataverse.sav","restricted":true,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":24650,"dataFile":{"id":353242,"persistentId":"","filename":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment_Study 2a Dataverse.sav","contentType":"application/x-spss-sav","friendlyType":"SPSS Binary","filesize":109931,"storageIdentifier":"surf://store:185959bf258-f66cee53aca9","rootDataFileId":-1,"checksum":{"type":"SHA-1","value":"4a984d8171b2c3217805ce6572a797ad8e666fc6"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2023-01-09","publicationDate":"2023-01-10","lastUpdateTime":"2023-01-10T12:54:23Z","fileAccessRequest":true}},{"label":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment_ Study 2b Dataverse.sav","restricted":true,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":24650,"dataFile":{"id":353301,"persistentId":"","filename":"Cleaned Data_Guilt Assessment_ Study 2b Dataverse.sav","contentType":"application/x-spss-sav","friendlyType":"SPSS Binary","filesize":400533,"storageIdentifier":"surf://store:1859bb8631e-db6a4aa6a6b9","rootDataFileId":-1,"checksum":{"type":"SHA-1","value":"55fc72d1bbe26b0a261e50b0f79fe600696166de"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2023-01-10","publicationDate":"2023-01-10","lastUpdateTime":"2023-01-10T12:54:23Z","fileAccessRequest":true}}]}}}
