Bij grondboringen zijn deel van de houten onderdelen aangeboord. Op deze wijze zijn vijf grenen (Pinus sylvestris L.) monsters verzameld, waarbij op één van de monsters de wankant nog aanwezig is. Daarnaast is een eiken (Quercus sp.) stijl bemonsterd.\nDeze monsters zijn aangeleverd voor dendrochronologisch onderzoek.\n\nDe grenen monsters kunnen allemaal gedateerd worden. De meest recente datering (van het monster met wankant) valt in 1669. Het lijkt aannemelijk dat de sluis in 1670 of kort daarna gebouwd is.  De overige dateringen voor het grenen vallen eerder, waarbij de datering voor NIEN-22-1 in de 15e eeuw opmerkelijk vroeg is. Mogelijk gaat het hier om het binnenste deel van een oude boom, maar een goede verklaring is hier niet.\nDe eiken stijl kon niet gedateerd
