Using newly developed purchasing power parities (PPPs) for sectoral value added, we analyse 66 countries and find that agriculture plays a predominant role in explaining aggregate labour productivity convergence. This is driven by two factors: strong labour productivity\nconvergence within agriculture and substantial labour reallocation away from agriculture, especially in developing countries. Our analysis reveals minimal convergence in the non-agricultural economy, underscoring agriculture's importance. We also document a declining role of resource misallocation over time in explaining cross-country productivity differences. These findings challenge an emphasis on manufacturing-led development pathways, suggesting that agricultural productivity growth and subsequent labour reallocation have been\nthe primary drivers of aggregate productivity convergence in recent decades."}}]},{"typeName":"subject","multiple":true,"typeClass":"controlledVocabulary","value":["Social Sciences"]},{"typeName":"keyword","multiple":true,"typeClass":"compound","value":[{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Productivity"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Index numbers"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Purchasing power parities"}},{"keywordValue":{"typeName":"keywordValue","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"convergence"}}]},{"typeName":"depositor","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"Gouma, Reitze"},{"typeName":"dateOfDeposit","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"2025-06-19"}]},"dansDataVaultMetadata":{"displayName":"Data Vault Metadata","name":"dansDataVaultMetadata","fields":[{"typeName":"dansDataversePid","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"doi:10.34894/777ZW3"},{"typeName":"dansDataversePidVersion","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"1.0"},{"typeName":"dansBagId","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"urn:uuid:736d576c-b7be-462b-9ac3-9ac244f71da6"},{"typeName":"dansNbn","multiple":false,"typeClass":"primitive","value":"urn:nbn:nl:ui:13-e3ecd71f-54e7-47da-b903-deb8b43306fd"}]}},"files":[{"label":"gd198.pdf","restricted":false,"version":1,"datasetVersionId":30724,"dataFile":{"id":487255,"persistentId":"","filename":"gd198.pdf","contentType":"application/pdf","friendlyType":"Adobe PDF","filesize":682685,"storageIdentifier":"surf://store:1978736bf10-9894ebe2ae71","rootDataFileId":-1,"checksum":{"type":"SHA-1","value":"6c8b0cfdeb2eea73a64c6d8882fc16929b153c15"},"tabularData":false,"creationDate":"2025-06-19","publicationDate":"2025-06-19","lastUpdateTime":"2025-06-19T08:06:02Z","fileAccessRequest":true}}]}}}
